Health care and treatment are often based on clinical practice guidelines that provide recommendations for practice and further research. The quality of New Zealand guidelines and the rigour of the guideline development process has not been previously explored in New Zealand. This thesis will provide an opportunity to explore guideline quality over a variety of different diseases and conditions and to be able to compare the quality of New Zealand guidelines with those from Australia.
The experiences of guideline developers as groups or as individuals on the guideline panel has not been explored either and this thesis provides an opportunity to be able to conduct both quantitative and qualitative exploration of this area.
